This is the AIDS clinic here which was started back in 1998 by a missionary doctor here (my supervisor....Dr. Pepper) but it is also apart of the Teaching Hospital for the Medical University in Mbarara. ISS stands for Immune Suppression Syndrome. Even though a lot of the social stimga associated with AIDS has decreased many people do not want their status to be made known to others. The clinic has about 10 rooms but will soon be expanding with a grant that was recently given...Praise God! They are even getting some of the patient's records put into a computerized data base. While there is no cure for AIDS...patients can receive antiretrovial medication which helps them live a longer life by helping increase their immune system. It's really neat to get to be apart of something that is literally changing the lives of thousands of people and giving them hope! This was a special day at the clinic...the US Ambassador came for a dedication of the building. Posted by Hello
